Methodology
How OnlyEarnings builds pre-earnings technical analysis reports. Every number is calculated from raw market data, and every source is cited.
Author
All technical analysis articles on OnlyEarnings are written by Mac Dee. Mac Dee specializes in pre-earnings technical setups, combining price structure analysis, momentum indicators, and historical earnings reaction data to give traders a clear picture of the technical landscape before a company reports.
Data Sources
All price data (open, high, low, close, adjusted close, volume) is sourced from Yahoo Finance daily OHLCV data. We use a rolling 12-month lookback window ending on the trading day immediately before the article publication date.
Earnings dates, consensus EPS estimates, and consensus revenue estimates are sourced from Yahoo Finance and cross-referenced against company investor relations pages and MarketBeat where noted. Historical earnings reaction data (actual EPS vs. estimate, post-earnings price change) is sourced from MarketBeat and Yahoo Finance earnings history.
All data is pulled as close to the article publication date as possible. We note the data-as-of date in each article.
Technical Indicators
Each article calculates the following indicators from raw OHLCV data:
| Indicator | Parameters | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Moving Averages | 5, 10, 20, 50, 200-day | Arithmetic mean of closing prices |
| RSI | 14-period | Wilder's smoothing (SMMA) |
| MACD | 12-26-9 | EMA(12) minus EMA(26); signal = EMA(9) of MACD |
| Bollinger Bands | 20-day, 2 SD | SMA-20 plus/minus 2x standard deviation of close |
| ATR | 14-period | Wilder's smoothing of true range |
| Fibonacci Retracement | 52-week swing | Standard levels: 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, 78.6% |
| Bollinger %B and Bandwidth | 20-day, 2 SD | %B = (close minus lower) / (upper minus lower) |
Editorial Standards
OnlyEarnings does not provide investment advice, buy/sell recommendations, or price targets. All articles present factual technical data and historical context only.
We cite our data sources in each article. Where consensus estimates differ between sources, we note both values and indicate which source is used for the primary figure.
Articles are published before the earnings report date. We do not retroactively edit articles to reflect post-earnings outcomes, except to add a clearly labeled update note.
All indicator values are calculated by the author from raw data. We do not use third-party charting platform indicator values as primary sources.
